Looking for a fishing trip that'll keep the whole family hooked? You've just found it. Our half-day guided fishing adventure off St. Petersburg is tailor-made for anglers of all ages, especially the little ones. We're not chasing monster fish here – this trip is all about non-stop action, filling the cooler, and making memories. Expect to reel in a bunch of tasty reef dwellers, with the chance to tangle with some bigger surprises along the way.
This isn't your typical "sit and wait" fishing trip. We'll have you dropping lines and pulling up fish faster than you can bait a hook. Our sweet spot is about 5-15 miles offshore, where the reefs are teeming with life. You'll be using light tackle, which means even the kids can handle the gear without breaking a sweat. Don't be surprised if you catch 30, 40, or even 70 fish in a single trip – it's just that good out there. And the best part? You'll have plenty to take home for a fresh fish dinner.
We'll set you up with everything you need to become a reef fishing pro in no time. We use a mix of techniques, from bottom fishing with squid or cut bait to jigging with artificial lures. You'll learn how to feel for that telltale nibble and when to set the hook. Our captain will show you the ropes on how to properly handle and release fish you're not keeping. And don't worry about tangles or lost gear – we've got plenty of tackle on board to keep you fishing all day long.
"Adam was awesome, and even got us a shark as a final farewell to our trip. Will definitely use him again. His boat and equipment were top quality." - Alan
Grey Snapper (Grunts): These tasty little fighters are the bread and butter of our reef trips. They're aggressive feeders and put up a scrappy fight on light tackle. Kids love catching these because they're easy to handle and abundant. Grunts are available year-round, but they're especially active in the warmer months.
Spanish Mackerel: Fast, flashy, and full of fight, Spanish mackerel are a blast to catch. They're seasonal visitors, typically showing up in the spring and fall. When they're around, we might switch to trolling or casting small spoons to target these speedsters. They're also excellent eating, with a rich, oily flavor that's perfect for grilling.
Goliath Grouper: While we don't target these gentle giants, occasionally one might decide to crash the party. Goliaths are catch-and-release only, but the thrill of hooking into one of these massive fish is unforgettable. They can grow over 800 pounds and are known for their powerful runs that can test even the sturdiest gear. If we're lucky enough to encounter one, it'll be the highlight of the trip.
King Mackerel: Another seasonal visitor, king mackerel (or kingfish) offer the chance at a bigger catch without venturing too far offshore. These toothy predators are known for blistering runs and aerial acrobatics. While not as common as our reef residents, hooking into a king can turn a good day into a great one. They're typically more abundant in the spring and fall.
Beyond our headliners, there's a whole cast of characters waiting to bend your rod. Porgies are small but scrappy, and they make excellent table fare. Lane snapper add a splash of color to the catch, with their pinkish hues and distinctive markings. For the kids (and kids at heart), pufferfish are always a hit – watching them blow up like a balloon never gets old.
Red and gag grouper might make an appearance, though they're usually on the smaller side in the areas we fish. Scamp grouper are a prized catch, known for their sweet, delicate meat. Blue runners will give you a good fight for their size, and while they're not the best eating, they make excellent bait for bigger predators.
And let's not forget about the possibility of shark encounters. While not an everyday occurrence, hooking into a blacktip or spinner shark can add an extra dose of excitement to the trip. Don't worry – our crew knows how to handle them safely for a quick photo op before release.
This trip isn't about landing a single trophy fish – it's about constant action, variety, and fun for the whole family. There's something special about watching a kid's face light up as they reel in fish after fish. Even seasoned anglers get a kick out of the non-stop action and the challenge of identifying all the different species we catch.
Our half-day format is perfect for those who want to get out on the water without committing to a full day. It's long enough to get into some serious fishing, but short enough to keep the little ones engaged (and leave time for other vacation activities). Plus, with the abundance of fish we catch, you're almost guaranteed to go home with some fresh fillets for dinner.

Goliath Grouper are the giants of our local waters. These massive fish can grow over 8 feet long and weigh up to 800 pounds. You'll find them lurking around reefs, shipwrecks, and other structures in relatively shallow water, usually less than 150 feet deep. While they're protected and can't be harvested, seeing one is always a thrill. They're most active in warmer months when they gather to spawn. Anglers are amazed by their sheer size and power - even just feeling one on the line is an experience. If you do hook into a Goliath, use heavy tackle and be ready for a short but intense fight. A local tip: look for them around bridge pilings or artificial reefs. Remember, these fish must be released quickly and carefully to ensure their survival.

Grey Snapper, also called Mangrove Snapper, are a staple catch around here. These fish typically run 10-14 inches and hang out near structure like docks, reefs, and mangroves. They're opportunistic feeders, so you'll find them year-round, but summer is prime time when they gather to spawn. Anglers love Grey Snapper for their tasty white meat and the challenge of coaxing them out of cover. To land one, use light tackle with a small hook and live bait like shrimp or minnows. Let it sink near structure and wait patiently - these fish can be finicky. A local tip: fish the outgoing tide around dock lights at night for best results. Grey Snapper put up a good fight for their size and make excellent table fare, so they're always a crowd-pleaser on charters.

King Mackerel, or Kingfish, are prized gamefish in our area. These sleek predators typically weigh 15-30 pounds but can get much bigger. You'll find them in open water, often at depths of 40-150 feet. Spring and fall are prime seasons as they migrate through. Anglers love Kings for their blistering runs and aerial acrobatics when hooked. To target them, try trolling with large spoons or live bait like blue runners. A local trick is to use a stinger rig with two hooks to improve your hookup ratio. Kings have razor-sharp teeth, so wire leaders are a must. When you see birds diving and bait spraying on the surface, that's a good sign Kings are feeding below. These fish make great smoked fish dip, but be aware they can have high mercury levels, so moderation is key.

Spanish Mackerel are a blast to catch around St. Pete. These speedy fish usually run 1-2 feet long and put up a great fight for their size. You'll find them in schools near the surface, often around structures in open water. Spring and fall are prime times as they migrate through. Anglers love targeting Spanish Macks for their fast action and tasty meat. To hook one, try trolling shiny spoons or casting small jigs into feeding schools. A local trick is to use a light wire leader - their sharp teeth can slice through mono. When you see birds diving, that's a good sign Spanish are feeding below. These fish make for some of the best fish tacos you'll ever have, so be sure to keep a few for dinner if you land them.
