The Promise of the Sea: Captain Adam of Playin’ Hooky Charters Shares His Passion for the Open Ocean with Floridians
Meet Captain Adam
Raised a Hoosier on a homesteaders’ farm, Adam and his brothers were hunting and fishing in the lakes and rivers of their northeast Indiana home for more than just fun – it was literally the food for their family! Growing up, Adam’s mornings, evenings, weekends and summers were spent on the water learning and then honing his fishing skills, which he then transferred to saltwater upon relocating to Florida.
In 1999, Adam moved to St. Petersburg, where he got his priorities straight – he bought a boat before buying a house! His passion for fishing led him to devote countless hours to studying; he educated himself on the patterns and habits of Gulf fish, on becoming familiar with reefs, wrecks and the underwater terrain and on learning saltwater fishing techniques. Since then Adam has successfully returned to the docks with a cooler full of fish even when the locals came home empty-handed.
Turning his lifelong passion for fishing into a business in 2012, Adam took the intensive U.S. Coast Guard-sanctioned Nautical School course to obtain his Captain’s license. He passed all tests on the first try, then took additional classes for licensing in CPR, towing and obtaining special permits for offshore fishing. You can rest assured that Captain Adam has taken all measures to be properly trained, licensed and insured. You’ll be heading out on a 2015 26-foot Sea Fox commander 266 with center Console/T-top to provide shade. The boat is powered by twin 150 Yamaha four stroke engines. There is a standard bathroom with head and fresh water sink along with dry storage available.
Captain Adam Homan’s desire is to give a day-at-sea experience to those who think they cannot afford a private charter. He loves the joy he can bring someone – child or adult – who reels in their first saltwater fish, big or small! Take some time to explore the site and discover the options Captain Adam can provide you and your family or friends. Feel free to contact him with any questions before booking, and remember – when you’re Playin’ Hooky, YOU don’t get caught, the FISH do!
